Good to know
- The calculator treats your whole gross pay as basic salary. If part of your pay is allowances, your SSNIT will be lower and PAYE slightly higher.
- Voluntary provident fund contributions (Tier 3) are also deductible, up to 16.5% of basic salary together with SSNIT, but are not included here.
Common questions
What are the new PAYE rates in Ghana?
From 1 September 2026 the first GHS 588 a month is tax-free. The next GHS 80 is taxed at 5%, the next GHS 100 at 10%, the next GHS 2,900 at 17.5%, the next GHS 16,000 at 25%, the next GHS 30,332 at 30%, and anything above GHS 50,000 at 35%.
Is SSNIT deducted before tax?
Yes. The employee's 5.5% SSNIT contribution is taken off before PAYE is worked out, which lowers your tax.
What is the SSNIT maximum for 2026?
SSNIT contributions apply to earnings up to GHS 69,000 a month from 1 January 2026, so the most an employee pays is GHS 3,795 a month.
