Money in Rwanda today
The National Bank of Rwanda's interest rate, the latest inflation figure and what the Rwanda franc is worth today, with what they mean for your savings and loans.
Central Bank Rate decided 26 August 2026. Inflation from the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda.
What is happening
Rwanda has raised its rate several times in 2026 as inflation climbed well above the 2% to 8% target band, reaching 17.2% in September. The rate was raised to 8.75% in August.
What it means for you
- Savers: inflation of 17.2% is higher than the Central Bank Rate, so money in a low-interest account is losing value. Look for options that pay more than inflation after tax.
- Borrowers: bank lending rates and variable-rate loans follow the central bank. After the latest rise, expect loan rates to go up.
- Prices: inflation of 17.2% means something that cost 1,000 a year ago costs about 1,172 now.
