Money in Ghana today
The Bank of Ghana's interest rate, the latest inflation figure and what the Ghana cedi is worth today, with what they mean for your savings and loans.
Monetary Policy Rate decided 25 September 2026. Inflation from the Ghana Statistical Service.
What is happening
The Bank of Ghana kept its rate at 14% in September 2026 for the third time this year. Inflation is near its lowest in decades, at 5.2% in September, and the 91-day Treasury bill rate has fallen to about 5.4%, from over 10% a year earlier.
What it means for you
- Savers: interest rates are above inflation, so savings accounts, money market funds and government bills that pay close to the central bank rate can grow faster than prices. Compare what you earn after tax with the 5.2% inflation rate.
- Borrowers: bank lending rates and variable-rate loans follow the central bank.
- Prices: inflation of 5.2% means something that cost 1,000 a year ago costs about 1,052 now.
